Usually people do not read the REAME files that come with their software...
But, since your here I might as well tell you a few things that you might like
to know.
First off,you might be asking yourself, "What is LaunchIt! and why did I bother to download it?" Well, consider this: Have you ever tried to 'Set Startup' from the finder with an application that resided on a different volume than your startup volume? If you have then you know that it just doesn't work. If you haven't then you probably don't need this utility anyway.
LaunchIt! is a small application that can be easily configured to run any application on startup off of ANY volume that is available at the time. In other words, it does what the Finder's 'Set Startup' was supposed to do in the first place.
How startup works is no miracle. It simply mounts ALL the volumes it can find and then launches your predefined program. "Oh no! Not ALL my volumes! I don't want ALL of my volumes to mount at startup!" Not to fear, this process is just an exact replica of what the Finder does when it is first run. So you get your normal volumes mounted a little earlier, and save the Finder some work.
This process of mounting volumes could very easily have been placed in an INIT or CDEV file. It might have been better this way because then the Finder's own 'Set Startup' would work properly. BUT, there are several reasons why I did not do it this way. First reason is that, if you're like me, you've got about four lines of inits (slight exageration, right??) on your startup screen and several hundred init conflicts to boot. Also, having my program launch the file give you an oppurtunity to SKIP the automatic launching of the application.
All right, if you've read all of this so far then I guess you are ready to find out the limitations of LaunchIt! and some of it's quirks.
Limitation # 1 : It only boots one application at startup. However, if you really wanted to I believe you could duplicate LaunchIt! (calling it something else) and 'Set Startup' to all of your copies from the Finder.
Limitation # 2 : It does not load in any documents with your program. Though 'Set Startup' can't do this either, I might have been able to do it had I spent a little more time (too bad, eh?).
Quirk # 1 : Sometimes it will not register a 'skip startup' key when starting up under MultiFinder.
Quirk # 2 : Like the Finder, if you have a large Hard Drive and you didn't shutdown properly, LaunchIt! will take a while to mount your volumes. So don't panic and think that it's erasing your Hard Drive, OK?
Final Note:
LaunchIt!'s default buttons may not be displayed properly under ClickChange, so don't panic if you get '@' at the end of all my default buttons.
